1. Why Alarm Equipment Security?
A) We are a local independent AEI distributor
with main offices in Omaha and Des Moines. Alarm Equipment has been associated
with AEI for over 10 years, and has introduced AEI to over 6000 homeowners
in a 5 state area.
B) This is not a "broker" site designed to
specifically generate prospects to sell to security companies!
If indeed you contact us and you are NOT in an area we serve, we will
refer you to a dealer, but only if that dealer promises to make available
to you an offer similar to our website offer.
C) When you work with Alarm Equipment you have the convenience
of a FREE telephone consultation or an in-home FREE consultation. You
can place an order after your questions are answered by phone or if
you prefer, in your home.
2. How can Alarm Equipment offer a free system?
Alarm Equipment is paid by AEI for each "contract for monitoring". In
this arrangement, AEI literally buys the product for you and pays for
its activation, with the trust that most people continue to monitor
with AEI well beyond the required 36 months. It is our understanding
that is takes somewhat over 5 years for AEI just to recapture their
investment! It is a tremendous opportunity for qualified (WAC) homeowners
to have an installed system with just a $99 startup fee and an agreement
to sign up for AEI monitoring.
3. Wired or Wireless?
Wired systems probably are most preferred for new home construction.
Wires are installed prior to dry walling. Alarm Equipment will pre-wire for you
with contractor's approval. Alarm Equipment will pre-wire for all doors and choice
of 2 motion sensors or 2 glass breaks at no extra charge (included with
contract for monitoring). Wireless systems are preferred for existing
homes. All "devices" i.e. motion sensors, door controls, do
require only 2 small holes for screws. Power cord & telephone connection
are still required to operate system. These are usually "fished"
through the walls.
4. Why a professional Installation
Having a security professional install and program your system
is absolutely important because you get the benefit of having a trained
technician analyze your home and make sure your devices (components)
are optimally located. The telephone connection is critical. Call Alarm Equipment
today to order and schedule a professional installation.
5. What are the main components of an Alarm
System?
A. Control Panel with battery back-up B. Keypad C. Door / Window
Contacts or transmitters D. Motion detector(s) E. Siren
6. What other devices are common additions
to compliment a basic Alarm System?
A. Glass Break detector(s), B. Smoke Detector C. Carbon monoxide
detector D. Low temperature device E. Wireless keypads and remotes.
7. Are wireless systems prone to false alarms
or affected by errant radio transmissions?
No, the technology today is very sophisticated.
8 . Can my alarm be "hooked up" directly
to the police station?
No, the local police station does not have the software or the needed
personnel to field alarm signals.
9. How is the alarm connected to AEI's central
station?
All alarms are normally monitored through the telephone lines. You may
also chose to add “Cellular Back Up” to your system to allow
signal transmission without a phone line. This can be used as the principle
signalling device where a land line is not used.
10. Where are AEI's central stations located?
Denver, Colorado -- Rochester, NY -- Dallas, Texas -- Jacksonville,
Florida -- Kansas City, Missouri.
11 . Is it better to have my alarm monitored
by a near by station?
Proximity to the central station is irrelevant. AEI's Stations operate
24 hours a day. Signals are received electronically with no time differential
whether your home is 1 block or 1000 miles from a central station.
12. What happens when the alarm goes off?
A trained AEI dispatcher will call your home to verify if you have set
the alarm off by mistake and ask for your password. If there is no answer
or the correct password is not given, the police are immediately notified.
Your control panel is a computer that identifies which door/window or
motion detector has triggered the alarm. The police are given accurate
information as to where the intrusion took place. AEI then contacts
you or a designated friend or relative. All of this data instantly appears
when a signal is received. Your alarm will automatically shut off within
12-17 minutes and rearm itself.
13. How loud is the siren and will it bother
the neighbors, if I set it off by mistake?
The siren is 85 decibels and pursuant to alarm code ordinances sirens
are installed inside the home. The siren is loud enough to be heard
by any thief on the perimeter who tries to break in but will not bother
your neighbors if you set it off by mistake. (The siren is very inconspicuous
in design, looking something like an intercom) or in the case of wireless
systems is built into the CPU itself.
14. Does AEI charge for false alarms?
No, AEI will never charge for a false alarms but most major cities do
charge a registeration fee and fines, (may allow one free).
.
15 . I already have smoke detectors, Why would
I want to add additional ones to my alarm system?
Adding smoke and fire protection to the system helps to ensure that
the fire department will be called, should there be a fire when you
are not home. Smoke detectors as part of your alarm system are "supervised"
24 hours a day even if you forgot to set your alarm.
16 . Is there an extra monitoring charge for
additional equipment? (I.E. Smoke detectors, Carbon monoxide detectors)
There is, but at times may be included if special bundled packages are
offered.
17 . What happens if we lose the electrical
power in our home?
The system has a battery back up housed in the control panel for this
emergency. It is re-charged when the power returns.
18 . How difficult is it to operate?
A child can operate this system, a 4 digit pin number allows full control
of your system.
19 . Can the system be set at night, or when
the kids are home?
Yes, The "STAY MODE" disarms the interior motion detector(s)
for freedom of movement while keeping the perimeter sensors (e.g. door/window
sensors and glass-break detectors) armed.
20 . How about my Pets? (cats, dogs)
Specially designed pet immune motion detectors can be used. Size, free
roaming, and placement are considerations.
21 . What is the correct design of a good
system?
It is preferred that any perimeter opening that is easily accessed have
a sensor, however all exterior doors should be monitored! In addition,
a good system should also include at least one motion sensor (considered
an interior trap). Most basic systems do not include a monitored smoke
alarm, but it is the most often preferred upgrade.
22 . In an emergency can I summon the police or fire
departments?
Yes, keypads have emergency Police and Fire panic buttons.
23 . What about medical emergencies?
Should a family member have a special condition and if AEI has been
given these SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS, AEI can dispatch whatever authority
is needed: Police, Fire or medical personnel.
24 . I have a pager. Can the alarm automatically
call my pager when the system is armed or disarmed?
Yes, if desired a paging feature built into the control panel will automatically
alert you when the system is armed or disarmed. This feature can be
valuable to working parents to verify if/or the kids have come home
from school.
25 . What if the keypad is not within reach?
Remote wireless devices are available for this purpose.
26 . Can I add emergency names and contacts
to my call list?
Yes, just call the central station and identify yourself with your account
number and your secret password.
27 . What about service or warranties on residential
installations?
Defects in workmanship and parts are covered for the first 90 days.
Following the 90 day period the same warranty applies on our maintenance
program with only a $25.00 trip charge.
28 . How much electricity does the alarm use?
Very little, no more than the light on your stove or the clock on your
VCR, less than $2 dollars a year.
29 . Is there a contract I need to sign?
Yes, AEI has a 3-year monitoring agreement. This guarantees at least
a portion of the amortization of the free system.
30 . Do I need an alarm permit?
Some towns do require them. Permit Fees range from $10-$60 the average
being $25.00.
31 . Can I get detailed information in the
mail?
No, Alarm Equipment Security does not send any further information on the operation
of the alarm system through the mail.
32 . Do we allow referrals of friends and
family?
One of the reasons for Alarm Equipment Security's success is the great amount
of unsolicited referrals we receive from our customers. This shows that
people do care about the safety of their friends and family members.
Customers are encouraged to have prospects call us and give the name
of the referring customer. In that way, it is possible for this sales
"lead" be given to the same sales person that spoke to the
referring customer. It is not always possible to duplicate any special
sales offer that may have been made to the original customer, but in
all cases we will extend to the referred prospect the best current offer
available.
33 . Who will help me design my alarm?
A trained security technician can visit your home to aid in the design
of the most effective system for your needs as well as answer your questions.
34 . Who will install my system and how long
does it take?
A professional installer will put in your system. A typical wireless
system can be installed in 2-3 hours. Most hard-wired systems are installed
in 8 hours.
35 . How will I be billed?
AEI direct debits a major credit card or a checking account on a monthly,
quarterly or annual basis.
36 . Will my insurance company give me a discount
for installing an alarm system?
Generally yes. Most all major insurance companies realize the importance
of having a monitored security system. Discounts vary between 5-20%
with the maximum being allowed for systems monitored for fire as well
as burglary.
37 . What are AEI's requirements to have
an alarm system installed through an authorized dealer?
You must be a homeowner with approved credit. A 3-year monitoring agreement
is required with a $99 deposit.
38 . Will you supply us names of your customers?
The contracts we have with individual homeowners and businesses are
strictly confidential. AEI relies on its reputation and length of business
to speak for itself. Alarm Equipment Security encourages calling the Better Business
Bureau to receive a report. We have constantly, year after year, been
placed on the Omaha BBB "Honor Roll".
